Capital Campaign - Faithful to our Mission
Commitment Weekend - October 9, 2016
Capital Campaign Update - August 7, 2016
Capital Campaign - July 10, 2016 Kick Off
This weekend I am delighted to announce the parish-wide kick-off of our Faithful to our Mission capital campaign! The project is about much more than repaying debt, or renovating our parish hall and church, it’s about enhancing our evangelizing mission and developing the future of our Catholic community!
Over 50 years ago the families of this parish saw a need for a new Catholic Church on the A Avenue property here in Lake Oswego (we had already been in the community since 1890 with the first church in town at the corner of 1st and E Avenue). With incredible foresight, determination and persistence parishioners built something here from which we are still reaping the benefits. More recently, parishioners banded together to build the new parish center. They forged ahead in difficult economic times, knowing that a new school and parish offices were desperately needed for our ministries to continue and to grow. The dream was made possible through bank financing and support of the archdiocese who knew that we would be able to meet the final costs down the road. Now, it is our time to act with that same foresight, determination and persistence to enhance the future of Our Lady of the Lake Parish and School by addressing the debt, and improving the hall and church. In this way we continue in the tradition of our founding families, and parishioners throughout the years who have made this parish a vital part of the Lake Oswego community.
Beginning this week, every parish household will be given the opportunity to participate in this campaign. You will be receiving a letter from me asking you to consider a “stretch” gift in support of this project. Read the information carefully. Much thought has gone into this campaign and the committee members and I are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Let me clearly state that the “consider amount” in the letter is not an expectation! Rather, it is an indication of the support we need and our hope that you will prioritize the future of Our Lady of the Lake Parish over the next five years. I encourage you to prayerfully consider your support and keep in mind that you are not alone – we are all doing this together, and we are all making sacrifices together.
The campaign is being rolled out in sections to make it more manageable, and all parish families will be asked to participate either in person or through a mailed request. A campaign volunteer may request a personal visit with you or contact you by phone to discuss your participation. They will share their passion for Our Lady of the Lake Parish and School, and also why they have supported the campaign sacrificially.
If you have been contacted by a volunteer, I ask that you please make the time to visit with them about your participation in our Faithful to our Mission effort. They will do their best to answer your questions and invite you to join us in support of this important campaign. For those of you who will receive your pledge card in the mail please take time as a family to prayerfully consider your request and if you have any questions, please contact the parish office at 503-636-7687 or email us at email@example.com.
Your brother in Christ,
Rev. John Kerns, Pastor
